Two kinds of road access restrictions are now in force on south Lantau (including Tung Chung Road); namely, closed road and prohibited zone.
Vehicles running on south Lantau or going into south Lantau through Tung Chung Road are required to possess valid Lantau closed
road permit.
In addition, this Department has imposed prohibition (from 8.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. daily for all vehicles and 24 hours for goods vehicles over 5.5 tonnes) on Tung Chung Road which is a one-lane road for two-way traffic and is narrow and steep on some sections in order to maintain smooth traffic on the road.
Vehicles entering Tung Chung Road during the prohibited hours are required to possess Tung Chung Road prohibited zone permit.
